Challenge Cost Share Agreements (CSAs) unite the Forest Service with public, private, and nonprofit partners to enhance our forests and public lands. By combining resources, CSAs tackle crucial projects like trail improvements and wildlife conservation, benefiting everyone involved. 🤝

One great example is the partnership between the Mount Wilson Bicycling Association (@mwbaorg) and the U.S. Forest Service (@u.s.forestservice). Together, they’ve worked to restore and maintain the Gabrielino and Silver Moccasin National Recreation Trails, heavily damaged by the 2009 Station Fire. In 2023 alone, MWBA volunteers logged over 1,100 hours, leading to significant trail repairs and sustainability upgrades. ⛏️

Their combined efforts not only improved trail conditions but also boosted public awareness and volunteer involvement, ensuring these trails remain accessible and enjoyable for all. 🌟

This week, a crew of Outdoor Alliance staff, partners, and supporters, including California Mountain Biking Coalition and International Mountain Bicycling Association are meeting with lawmakers in Washington D.C. to advocate for the EXPLORE Act, defending the Public Lands Rule, and protecting more of America's public lands and waters.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by the Southern California wildfires currently burning throughout the region. Many regional trails and mountain bike areas have been severely impacted.

CAMTB stands in solidarity with the impacted communities facing this devastation. We send our immense gratitude to the firefighters, U.S. Forest Service and other public safety staff working to keep people and property safe.

Save the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Trail! 🚴‍♀️

The Richmond-San Rafael Bike/Pedestrian Bridge Trail is at risk of being closed Monday through Thursday by Fall 2024, converting it into a breakdown lane for cars. This closure would eliminate critical access for those who rely on the RSR Bridge to connect the East & North Bay, prioritizing cars over people in the middle of a climate crisis. 🚗

We need MORE access, not less. Sign the petition today and tell the San Francisco Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) to keep the RSR Trail open 7 days a week, 24 hours a day. Your voice matters—let's stand together to protect our bridge! ✊

CAMTB Legislative Update ⚡️

As summer winds down, we’re nearing the end of the legislative session in Sacramento. There was a lot of action last week ahead of the August 31 deadline, and our Executive Director Michael Anzalone was on the scene to ensure mountain bikers' voices were heard.

Here’s a quick update on the key bills CAMTB has been tracking:
✅ PASSED & headed to Governor Newsom for approval or veto by Sept 30:
- AB-2038 (State Parks Outdoor Equity Programs)
- AB-2939 (Parks: Counties & Cities: Interpretive Services)
- AB-2091 (CEQA Exemption: Public Access: Nonmotorized Recreation)
- SB-1271 (E-Bikes, Powered Mobility Devices & Batteries)

⛔️ DIED:
- SB-1332 (Conservation Stewardship Endowment Fund)
- SB-620 (Low Impact Camping, which had major trail funding potential)

Meet Nic Costanzo, one of our CAMTB Teen Ambassadors! Nic is a passionate advocate for making mountain biking more accessible to everyone. For him, mountain biking is all about exploring new trails with friends 🚲

Nic has also been active in trail advocacy with HCMTB in Humboldt County, even speaking at the 2023 Singletrack Summit in Arcata about how the high school mountain bike team is making a difference for kids in the community. Keep being an inspiration for others, Nic! 🌟

Exciting progress in the East Bay! @santacruztrails is hard at work building the Valle Vista Trail, a new 1-mile multi-use trail in Pleasanton Ridge Regional Park, thanks to the East Bay Regional Park District. 🌲

This trail will soon welcome cyclists, hikers, and equestrians to explore a fresh part of the park's stunning 9,090 acres. 🚴‍♂️

What's even better? All revenue from this project will support underfunded public trail projects in the Santa Cruz Mountains, fueling more trail work and volunteer events! 🌟
