SUMMARY:Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay: Ride Like a Girl - Santa Cruz
DESCRIPTION:Did you know that “pogonip” is a mangled version of a Shoshone word meaning “freezing fog”? \n\n\n\nWe mention it because the July edition of women’s ride series will start in Pogonip Open Space Preserve and work its way up to the trails above UC Santa Cruz. We’re reasonably sure we won’t encounter any actual pogonip\, thankfully. \n\n\n\nJoin BTCEB and ride leader Rebecca Lewington on Saturday\, June 15th for our next installment of Ride Like A Girl. Meet at 8:30am just off Highway 1 at Harvey West Park in Santa Cruz. It’s a charming spot with proper bathrooms and even a pump track. We’ll gather up for a quick huddle to talk about the ride at about 8:45\, and roll by 9:00 am. \n\n\n\nWe’ll likely split into two groups. The Teal group will cover about 14 miles with 2\,000 feet of climb\, including the insanely fun Sweetness trail. The Denim group will be a bit more challenging in both distance and difficulty\, covering about 18 miles with 2\,800 feet of climb. The extra comes from the even more insanely fun Magic Carpet trail. But fear not! None of the climbs are terribly steep. \n\n\n\nNote that these trails are not suitable for inexperienced riders. Intermediates should be fine\, but be prepared to walk a couple of tricky sections. \n\n\n\nThe mission of Ride Like a Girl is to have fun\, learn new trails and meet other women (cis\, trans and femme) who love to mountain bike. We’ll take care of you: these are no-stress rides where no one is left behind.

SUMMARY:Briones Pilot Area Community POP-UP RIDE with Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay
DESCRIPTION:Join Bicycle Trails Council of the East Bay Events Director David Wilcox for a chance to have your voice heard about the future of mountain biking in the East Bay at the Briones Pilot Project Community Check In Event\, and stay for an expert guided tour of the all new Pilot Program area in Briones Regional Park. This will take place on Saturday\, June 15th at 9:30 am at the Alhambra Creek Trailhead in Martinez\, CA. We head over to the Briones Pilot Community Check-In event held by East Bay Regional Parks at 10 am\, and ride the four main trails that have been permitted during this 2-year pilot period afterward around noon. If you haven’t been to Briones\, you can expect steep fire road climbs\, and highly technical descents unlike most of what we have available to ride legally in the East Bay. \n\n\n\nThe ride will be on the difficult side due to the climbing involved\, and we’ll call out features and ride-arounds on the single track to make sure everyone stays in their comfort zone. \n\n\n\nThese trails are rated black diamond\, so riders should be comfortable descending on steep and loose terrain. There will be many bailout points along the ride if anyone gets in over their heads\, and the wildflowers are still blooming so it should be a beautiful day out even if you cut the ride short. \n\n\n\nPlan for 10 mi and nearly 3000 ft of climbing. Here’s the route on Ride w/ GPS
