This is one of those moments where a few minutes of your time can influence decades of trail access across California. 🚨

The California Trails Survey is a rare opportunity for riders, hikers, advocates, and trail professionals to directly shape what trail access looks like across the state. From neighborhood paths to backcountry singletrack, your experiences help identify what’s working, what’s missing, and where investment is most needed. 🤝

This input will guide how funding from the voter-approved Proposition 4 Climate Bond is used, influencing real trail projects and updates to the California Recreational Trails Plan. It’s about more than recreation. It’s about equity, climate resilience, honoring Tribal priorities, and meeting California’s 30x30 conservation goals. 💥

If you care about access, sustainability, and the future of trails in your region, this is your moment to speak up by Feb 28th. 🗣

Chico Velo’s Chico Bike Park Project 🚲

Our member organization @chico.velo is bringing the Chico Bike Park to life, and it’s shaping up to be a true community asset. After years of listening, planning, and partnering with the Chico Area Recreation District and American Ramp Company, this six acre bike park is becoming a reality right in the heart of Chico. 🎉

Designed to welcome everyone from kids learning to ride to experienced riders sharpening their skills, the Chico Bike Park will feature pump tracks, jump lines, technical features, and progressive zones for all abilities. Just as important, the project is rooted in stewardship. Mature oak trees are being preserved, native landscaping is prioritized, and low lighting will protect the surrounding neighborhood and night skies. 🌲

Construction is well underway, with major features already taking shape and a summer 2026 opening on the horizon. Projects like this show what’s possible when local advocates, land managers, and communities work together to create accessible, sustainable places to ride. 🤝

We’re proud to support Chico Velo and their work to build better trails and bike facilities for Northern California. 🙏

Briones Pilot Program: Reimagining Trail Access Through Collaboration 🤝

At Briones Regional Park, a long running challenge became an opportunity to rethink how access, conservation, and community can work together. 🌲

For years, mountain bike access at Briones felt like a game of whack a mole. Unsanctioned trails popped up, environmental impacts grew, and formal advocacy struggled to deliver lasting solutions. In 2023, @stewardsofbriones, @ebrpd, and @bicycletrailscouncil helped turn a tipping point into action through a bold pilot project. ⚒️

Over 20 months, a 1,600 acre portion of the park became a test case for adopting non system trails with intention. Directional bike only trails, thoughtfully designated multi-use routes, and hike only paths were paired with the closure and restoration of poorly built trails. Access was managed, users were educated, and data was collected. Just as important, the process centered on listening and bringing the community into the conversation. ⚡️

The results speak volumes. Trail conflict decreased. Environmental restoration moved forward. Unsanctioned building slowed. Riders and other trail users gained clearer expectations and better experiences. In December 2024, the adopted trails became official, and collaboration continues even as the process navigates legal challenges. 💪

This pilot shows what’s possible when trust is built, energy is harnessed, and conservation and recreation are treated as shared goals. It’s a model that can reduce impacts, meet real public demand, and create faster, more cost effective solutions than starting from scratch. 🌟

This is what trail advocacy looks like across California today ⚒️

In just five short years, CAMTB has grown from 5 member organizations to a coalition of 43 trail orgs working across the state to protect, maintain, and expand access to the places we ride. From coastal trails to mountain singletrack, this network represents thousands of riders, volunteers, and advocates showing up for California’s trails. 🌞

Our role is to unite these organizations and represent them at the state level, making sure mountain bikers and trail stewards have a strong, coordinated voice where decisions are made. 🤝

All January long, we’ll be highlighting member organizations from across the state and sharing ways you can get involved locally. Find your people. Support your trails. 🌲
