Colby Mountain is Opening, One Trail at a Time ⚡️

Thanks to the leadership and persistence of our member organization Chico Velo, Colby Mountain is officially coming to life. This long-term, community driven project is transforming an underused corner of the Lassen National Forest into a world class, sustainable trail system that serves riders, hikers, and the surrounding region. 🎉

Two trails are now open to the public. Humboldt Drop, a one way, downhill mountain bike trail built for experienced riders, delivers optional jumps, berms, and drops with clear signage throughout. Escape Trail is a multi use, adaptive friendly trail designed for two way travel, expanding access and welcoming a wider range of trail users. Rescue points installed in partnership with Butte County Search and Rescue add an extra layer of safety on both trails. 🚲

This is just the beginning. Construction continues on the Lookout Trail, with many more miles planned as part of a vision that includes forest health, environmental education, emergency access, and long term economic recovery for the region following the Camp Fire. 🔥

Projects like Colby Mountain show what’s possible when local advocacy, land managers, and communities work together to build trails that are thoughtful, inclusive, and built to last. 🤝

Please ride responsibly, respect closed trail signage, and consider supporting Chico Velo as they continue building the future of Colby Mountain. 💪

Fire Hardened Trails in Action 💥

As wildfire risk continues to shape the future of California’s landscapes, our member organization Sierra Buttes Trail Stewardship is leading with a proactive, trail centered solution. 💡

Their Fire Hardened Trails work rethinks what a trail corridor can be. Not just a place to recreate, but a strategic fuel break that protects forests, communities, and access all at once. By managing vegetation within a wider trail corridor, SBTS is reducing ignition risk, slowing fire spread, and creating safer conditions for both people and ecosystems. 🌿

This approach carefully removes dead and hazardous material, thins smaller trees, and maintains healthy spacing while retaining mature conifers and hardwoods that anchor the forest. It balances fire mitigation with ecological stewardship, ensuring forests can recover, regenerate, and remain resilient long after a fire passes. 🔥

What makes this work powerful is the collaboration behind it. Trail builders, land managers, firefighters, and local communities working together to align recreation with forest health and wildfire resilience. 🌲

Fire hardened trails show what’s possible when trails are part of the solution. This is climate responsive trail advocacy in action, and a model that can shape the future of trail systems across California. 🌞

For 25 years, the @norcalleague has been getting kids outside, building strong bodies, minds, character, and community through the inclusive sport of interscholastic cycling. What started as a way to get middle and high school students on bikes has grown into a movement rooted in fun, inclusivity, equity, respect, and community.

We’re proud to work alongside NorCal through our Teen Ambassador Program, supporting student athletes as they learn how to advocate for the trails and public lands they ride and love.

Celebrating 25 years of impact, leadership, and thousands of young riders discovering what’s possible on a bike. 🌟

Revitalizing Folsom’s Bike Park ⚒️

Our member organization @FATRAC (Folsom Auburn Trails Riders Action Coalition) is leading the effort to rebuild and reimagine the Folsom Public Bike Skills Park into a space that serves riders of all ages and abilities. 🚲

In partnership with the City of Folsom and a deeply invested local community, this project is about more than new features. It’s about bringing new life to a public space, creating a place to learn, progress, and gather, and investing in the future of mountain biking in the region. 🌲

Helping shape this next chapter are two legendary builders with deep roots in the sport. Randy Spangler, a pioneer of freeride mountain biking and one of the original designers of the Folsom Bike Park, is returning to give the park a fresh start. Alongside him is Greg Watts, one of the most influential freeriders of his generation, now bringing his creativity and technical expertise to bike park design. ⚡️

If you believe in accessible, high-quality riding spaces, now’s the time to get involved. Support FATRAC, make a donation towards the project, and help keep momentum rolling for mountain biking in Folsom. 💥

Caballo Rojo in Marin County is Officially Open! 🎉

After more than a decade of vision, persistence, and community advocacy, Caballo Rojo is officially open in Marin’s Tamarancho trail network. 🚲

This new one-mile, downhill-only mountain bike trail is the result of years of collaboration and an incredible outpouring of community support, led by our member organization @marintrailstewards (formerly Access4Bikes). Securing the permits last year marked the end of a long road, and the beginning of a fast, focused, build powered by MTS’s Pro Trails Crew and hundreds of volunteers. 💪

We’re proud to stand alongside Marin Trail Stewards and celebrate this milestone for Marin County and California mountain biking. Proof that when communities organize, show up, and keep pushing, trails happen! 🎉

This is one of those moments where a few minutes of your time can influence decades of trail access across California. 🚨

The California Trails Survey is a rare opportunity for riders, hikers, advocates, and trail professionals to directly shape what trail access looks like across the state. From neighborhood paths to backcountry singletrack, your experiences help identify what’s working, what’s missing, and where investment is most needed. 🤝

This input will guide how funding from the voter-approved Proposition 4 Climate Bond is used, influencing real trail projects and updates to the California Recreational Trails Plan. It’s about more than recreation. It’s about equity, climate resilience, honoring Tribal priorities, and meeting California’s 30x30 conservation goals. 💥

If you care about access, sustainability, and the future of trails in your region, this is your moment to speak up by Feb 28th. 🗣

Chico Velo’s Chico Bike Park Project 🚲

Our member organization @chico.velo is bringing the Chico Bike Park to life, and it’s shaping up to be a true community asset. After years of listening, planning, and partnering with the Chico Area Recreation District and American Ramp Company, this six acre bike park is becoming a reality right in the heart of Chico. 🎉

Designed to welcome everyone from kids learning to ride to experienced riders sharpening their skills, the Chico Bike Park will feature pump tracks, jump lines, technical features, and progressive zones for all abilities. Just as important, the project is rooted in stewardship. Mature oak trees are being preserved, native landscaping is prioritized, and low lighting will protect the surrounding neighborhood and night skies. 🌲

Construction is well underway, with major features already taking shape and a summer 2026 opening on the horizon. Projects like this show what’s possible when local advocates, land managers, and communities work together to create accessible, sustainable places to ride. 🤝

We’re proud to support Chico Velo and their work to build better trails and bike facilities for Northern California. 🙏
