CAMTB Advocacy Pillars

CAMTB Advocacy Pillars

The California Mountain Biking Coalition (CAMTB) advocates for the diverse needs of mountain bikers and trail organizations across the state. We believe investment in trails, parks, open space, and recreation is imperative to achieve positive environmental, economic, and health outcomes for all of California. We support investments and initiatives that preserve and protect the public lands and the trails that take us to, through, and from them. These investments can be financial, or through local, regional, or state policies, regulations, or laws. Our Advocacy Pillars are as follows:

Expanded & Enhanced Bike-Friendly Trails

  • Advocating for multi-use trails that improve the trail experience for all users, with a focus on mountain bikers while ensuring safety and respect for other users.
  • Encouraging the creation of bike-optimized trails that cater to riders of all skill levels, providing features that enhance the experience for mountain bikers while still allowing other users to enjoy the trail.
  • Supporting bike-only trails designed specifically for mountain bikes, with a variety of difficulty levels and features that challenge riders of all abilities.
  • Promoting the creation of bike-optimized trails, progressive bike skills parks, and pump tracks that cater to riders of all ages and skill levels.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Supporting active maintenance of trails to minimize environmental impacts, while preserving the natural beauty and ecosystem services of the surrounding environment.
  • Encouraging the use of sustainable trail-building design and management techniques to minimize the environmental impact of trail construction and use.
  • Advocating for hardening of landscapes, trails, and trail infrastructure against fires, floods, and climate change impacts.

Equitable Access to Public Lands

  • Promoting the reduction of barriers to trails for all, by supporting transit to trails projects and grant programs that provide affordable access to trails.
  • Encouraging the development of trails in underserved communities that are safe, accessible, and inclusive for all, regardless of skill level, equipment, or means of travel.
  • Advocating for diverse voices and perspectives in the planning and design of trails, to ensure that trails are accessible to everyone.

Empowered Communities

  • Supporting and empowering communities to advocate for trails, build and maintain them, and foster a sense of ownership and responsibility for their local trail systems.
  • Encouraging the creation of local trail stewardship groups and volunteer programs, fostering a sense of community and collaboration.
  • Providing resources and training to communities to build capacity and skills in trail building, maintenance, and advocacy.
