Senate Land Sale Provision Suffers Setback
Senate Parliamentarian Blocks Sale of Public Lands in Reconciliation Bill
In brighter news today, the Senate Parliamentarian blocked the sale of public lands outlined in the Senate Reconciliation Bill. This outcome is a direct result of the collective advocacy from thousands of mountain bikers and other recreational users like you. Your voices have been heard, and your engagement has made a difference.
In its original form, a provision introduced by Senator Lee aimed to sell off over three million acres of land from the US Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management. This means that any similar future proposal will require more votes (60 vs 51) to pass, significantly increasing the difficulty of enactment.
The Path Ahead
While this is certainly good news for the outdoor recreation and conservation community, it is essential to note that the effort to block the sale of public lands is not over. Senator Mike Lee, who introduced the initial proposal, has indicated his intention to revise the language. This revised proposal may exclude Forest Service land and reduce the amount of BLM land involved, but not entirely.
Housing prices are crushing families and keeping young Americans from living where they grew up. We need to change that.
Thanks to YOU—the AMERICAN PEOPLE—here’s what I plan to do:
1. REMOVE ALL Forest Service land. We are NOT selling off our forests.
2. SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCE…
— Mike Lee (@SenMikeLee) June 24, 2025
We must remain vigilant and ensure that any new proposals genuinely safeguard our access to and the integrity of these vital natural spaces.
Your Voice Counts
This news clearly demonstrates the power of our collective advocacy. Savor this moment, but be prepared to use your voice again soon to protect the public lands we all value. Please stay tuned for further updates and be ready to speak up to ensure our trails and public lands remain open and accessible for current and future generations.
Keep pedaling, keep exploring, and keep fighting for the spaces and places we love to ride!
