What’s the Ask?

CAMTB encourages you to express your support for classifying Alameda-Tesla Park as a State Park with sub-unit classifications where needed to protect sensitive natural and cultural resources.

We believe that this two-tiered approach balances conservation and recreation goals, and it aligns with the mission of California State Parks:

“To provide for the health, inspiration, and education of the people of California by helping to preserve the state’s extraordinary biological diversity, protecting its most valued natural and cultural resources, and creating opportunities for high-quality outdoor recreation.”

CAMTB opposes classifying the park unit as a Reserve, as it unnecessarily places restrictions across the entirety of the park, limiting much-needed outdoor opportunities. Help ensure that California’s public lands welcome the broadest base of users, while protecting our natural, cultural, and recreational resources for generations to come.

Recommended Comments

  1. Unit Classification & General Plan: Classify Alameda-Tesla as a State Park to accommodate a wide range of users and uses, and better balance recreation and resource protection.
  2. Purpose & Vision: Update the Declaration of Purpose and Vision to equally prioritize high-quality outdoor recreation opportunities and resource protection.
  3. Trails & Trail Access: Allow hikers, bikers, runners, and equestrians access to all current and proposed roads and trails. Include at least one designated, permit-free route through cultural preserves. Add two key route connections to help disperse users, to create more loop opportunities, and to provide better access from the campgrounds. Prioritize a Road and Trail Management Plan to identify additional trail opportunities and determine appropriate access.
  4. Camping: Include drive-in and walk-in dispersed camping opportunities, similar to other State Parks, in the designated Concept 2 area. This will provide varied experiences and introduce camping to many Central Valley residents.
  5. Equestrian Infrastructure: Provide a suitable staging area for equestrians, recognizing them as legitimate trail users.
