Mt. Diablo State Park Strategic Plan and Public Petition

Mt. Diablo Trails Alliance’s Trails 2035 is a community-focused Strategic Plan for Mt. Diablo State Park. It is designed to achieve Better Trails and Expanded Access for all trail user groups at Mount Diablo State Park.

This 10-year plan includes four goals, ranked by estimated funding requirements:

  • Propose and secure an additional 15 miles of singletrack trails for multi-use bike-friendly designation through the change-in-use (CIU) process
  • Propose and support the construction of ADA-compliant trails to increase options for park visitors with accessibility needs
  • Service 50 miles of singletrack trails through trail maintenance events (Dig Days)
  • Launch the Responsible Recreation education program and advocacy

Trails 2035 requires a vital fundraising drive powered by charitable donations from people like you.

Trails 2035
strategic goals are based on fulfilling the policy recommendations of the 2016 Road and Trail Management Plan (RTMP) for Mount Diablo State Park.

The 2016 RTMP was a stakeholder-driven mandate to address and adapt to evolving trail user needs. It includes expanded trail opportunities for off-road cyclists and park visitors with accessibility needs.

The trail network at Mount Diablo State Park has not kept pace with these evolving trail user needs. With Trails 2035, Mount Diablo Trails Alliance aims to be part of the solution, helping Mount Diablo State Park become that beacon for balancing conservation and recreation.

Established in October 2023, Mount Diablo Trails Alliance aims to serve as a long-term partner of California State Parks and related stakeholders at Mount Diablo State Park, helping bridge gaps between conservation objectives, recreation goals, and resource constraints.

Its trail stewardship, access, and Responsible Recreation initiatives focus on Better Trails (e.g., more accessible and durable) and Greater Access (e.g., expanded circulation, connector and loop options for off-road cyclists and more ADA-compliant trails for park visitors with accessibility needs).
