Meet the Mountains to Desert Artist: Rachelle Boyd

I started volunteering with Lowelifes Respectable Citizens’ Club in 2021, working on backcountry trails in Angeles National Forest. Trail work introduced me to a wonderful community built around a shared love of bikes and stewardship. Our monthly campouts are a chance to connect with old friends, make new ones, and eat great tacos while improving access to nature for the 4 million annual visitors to the Angeles. Over the last five years, most of our efforts have been restoring trails damaged by wildfire. While at times the work feels sisyphean, watching how quickly our chaparral ecosystem recovers from fire gives me greater appreciation for the resilience of nature, and the resilience of our community.
