Your Dirt, Your Voice: California Trails Survey

Tell the California Natural Resource Agency what your trails and public lands need.

California’s statewide trails network is at a turning point. Whether you’re a cyclist, a professional trail builder, or a local advocate, the California Natural Resources Agency (CNRA) needs to hear from you in their California Trails Survey.

We are calling on the mountain biking and trail stewardship community to participate in the CNRA’s California Trails Survey. This is your chance to help blaze a new path forward and guide critical trail investments included in the voter-approved Proposition 4 (Climate Bond). The online survey is open through February 2026, when virtual public meetings are also scheduled for further engagement.

Why Your Input Matters

While an essential part of this initiative is ensuring our trail networks are inclusive and accessible to underserved communities, which we wholy support, the California Trails Survey is also about the big picture. It will evaluate the health and sustainability of the entire state trails system.

We need to “daylight” the real-world issues you face every time you hit the trail:

  • Funding Gaps: Identifying where resources are lacking for maintenance and new builds.
  • Policy Hurdles: Addressing the regulatory bottlenecks that slow down trail stewardship.
  • Management Solutions: Finding better ways to balance recreation with conservation.

For Every Rider, on Every Trail

The California Trails Survey is intended to capture the needs of all Californians—the served, the underserved, and everyone in between. From high-alpine singletrack to urban pump tracks, your specific experience helps us build a data-driven case for better trail infrastructure across the state.

Don’t let the future of California’s trails be decided without the people who know them best.

ACTION ALERT: When completing the survey, let the CNRA know you are a CAMTB Community Member.
