Special Post: CAMTB Blog Takeover by Outdoor Alliance
(updated: April 9, 2024)
This week, we welcome CAMTB advocacy partner, Outdoor Alliance to share some exciting news about the EXPLORE Act. See below for more info.
Big News! the U.S. House passed the EXPLORE Act, a first-of-its-kind bipartisan package of outdoor recreation policy. If you have two minutes, please send a quick thank you message to your House representatives.
The EXPLORE Act brings together a number of different great policy proposals to enhance, improve, and protect outdoor recreation on our public lands. With outdoor recreation participation growing, there are many opportunities to improve how public lands are managed. Outdoor Alliance and our partners have been working for years to develop and pass a package of recreation policy to improve outdoor recreation on public lands and waters. The EXPLORE Act includes bills like the Biking on Long Distance Trails Act (BOLT) to identify and create more long-distance bike trails, the Protecting America’s Rock Climbing Act (PARC) to safeguard Wilderness climbing, the Simplifying Outdoor Access for Recreation Act (SOAR) that will improve recreational permitting for outfitters and guides, and permanent direction for the Outdoor Recreation Legacy Partnership and the Federal Interagency Council on Outdoor Recreation (FICOR).
‘Thank You’s’ Are Power Tools of Advocacy
Right now, we strongly encourage you to write a quick note to your Representatives thanking them for passing the EXPLORE Act. One advocacy secret is that following up after a vote might have even more impact than asking lawmakers to do something in the first place. It signals to your lawmakers that you are paying attention—not just to what’s going on in Congress, but to what your lawmakers are doing and how they are voting. The House passed the package by voice vote, which means there isn’t a roll call of votes, so everyone can get a thank you message.
